Windows Phone 7

Microsoft today announced its new Windows Phone 7 OS. CEO Steve Ballmer unveiled the first phones that run the OS and partner companies that will be helping in distribution. There are nine phones, from HTC, LG, Samsung, and Dell, will be available in the market in November (U.S. only) and were all announced today. Check out the video below:

With this new line of WP7 business, International Data Corporation (IDC), a research firm specializing in information technology, predicts that Microsoft will be able to grow its market share (currently 6.8%) to 9.8% by 2014. I believe it is a reasonable number considering its unique interface that will give users different experience in mobile phone through its various softwares. WP7 integrates Xbox live online service for gaming experience and Zune service for music experience.  For corporate users, WP7 has integrated with exchange and widely used enterprise softwares (Microsoft Office).

Additionally, WP7 is the first new total mobile operating system from Microsoft since Apple iPhone and Google Android came up. It is believed to strengthen Microsoft position in the still-growing smartphone market.  With the new mobile OS, telecommunication industry will expect more competition. Microsoft stocks went up 0.3% after the launch.
